Job description

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager - Construction whom will be responsible for coordinating business development activities for Clean Energy and Construction services in the Middle East. This role is a permanent position and, whilst the location is listed as our office in Abu Dhabi, we are happy for the successful candidate to be based in any of our main Middle East offices.


This role will support the AMEASE (Asia, Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe) E&I (Environment & Infrastructure) and Clean Energy (CE) Operating Unit, which is expected to grow significantly within a relatively short term, delivering the full suite of construction, engineering, consulting, and program management services across all four Amec Foster Wheeler markets (Oil & Gas, E&I, Mining, and Clean Energy).


The successful candidate will report to the AMEASE E&I and CE Business Development Director and will be personally responsible for development and revenue growth with larger & mid-size clients or prospects. You will also work with Amec Foster Wheeler country teams within the Middle East and relevant support functions to foster and develop key customer relationships, present / sell construction services to Clean Energy clients, respond to expressions of interest (EOIs) and requests for proposals (RFPs), and actively participate in regional initiatives.



Grow the opportunity pipeline in Clean Energy construction services

Coordinate the implementation of specific strategies and plans in the Middle East

Grow service sectors in addition to current offerings

Leverage Amec Foster Wheeler capabilities from across the globe to offer services and increase market share

Coordination across the Amec Foster Wheeler businesses to identify, acquire and deliver work in accordance with the Amec Foster Wheeler Operating Model

Lead the development of Amec Foster Wheeler E&I and Clean Energy bids for Clean Energy construction projects in the Middle East and ensure implementation of the Amec Foster Wheeler Operating Model

Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Clean Energy construction services market, consistent with strategic goals of Amec Foster Wheeler E&I and Clean Energy Operating Unit.

Review and report on market trends in the Middle East and make recommendations on future development of new and existing market sectors

Work with AMEASE management teams to ensure alignment between all markets and regional business plans in the Middle East

Communicate with clients on a regular basis to ensure needs are being met

Direct efforts and activities aimed at maintaining and deepening relationships with existing clients and identifying new clients and developing relationships with prospects

Direct and actively participate in defining the strategy for specific new business opportunities.

Supervise the preparation of client proposals, participate in proposal and pricing reviews and in proposal presentation and negotiations with clients

Direct research activities to identify emerging market opportunities and monitor competitor activities

Represent the organization to senior level industry contacts

Log, track, and update leads and opportunities in the Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

Report on actions, opportunities, and leads in weekly BD coordination calls

Desired Skills and Experience

University degree in relevant technical, financial or commercial discipline

Broad understanding of the company’s business direction and strategy

More than eight years of successful business development experience in the Clean Energy (solar) industry

Seeks out new approaches for building external and internal relationships; continually strives to deepen relationships with key clients/prospects; coaches others on relationship management issues

Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgement in identifying the implications of market intelligence

Work is assigned in terms of objectives and priorities; duties are carried out within broad guidelines and unusual matters are generally referred to more senior authority

Leads a work group consisting of professional and support staff and may coordinate the activities of colleagues in other departments

Must have worked within the Clean Energy industry and should have relationships with medium and large EPC companies within the industry

Experience living and working in GCC states

Language skills: English (required) and Arabic (preferred)
